Broadway & Photography

It's Thursday night of Superbowl weekend and I am home with pneumonia, I guess it's a good excuse to keep my friends away from me so I can do my homework. I feel like absolute shit, especially since the one order the doctor told me was no gym for two weeks. I start my day going to the gym, and I feel like without those endorphines filling my body everyday and that extra boost in the morning, I am going to be a complete bitch and miserable person. So, I am sorry in advance if I am..lol.

Class today was perfection. Broadway has been a very large part of my life since my earliest years. I am lucky to live about 30 minutes outside of New York City, so for my family and I to see plays, is no big deal. We also go to Papermill Playhouse which is located in NJ. I also tought in a community theater school for 5 years and was surrounded by constant broadway show tunes and theatre geeks.
There are two things I regret when coming to college. I lost my photography and my acting.

Since we are discussing photography next class, I figured I would post some of my old photography on here.

After class on Operas

It's official. I have the ultimate desire to attend an Opera. I never knew ANYTHING about Operas. Seriously. I want to watch these masterpieces to see where the art and theater I so adore now, has come from. Especially instances like La bohème, where I am literally OBSESSED with RENT and to be able to see where it originated from will give me a whole new meaning. When I say obsessed, I have seen the Broadway show 4 or 5 times, and I have watched the movie a few hundred times (no joke) and listened to the soundtrack more than I would gladly admit. I think I am going to watch La Boheme for my Opera paper. I am so curious to see and hear the original inspiration for Jonathan Larson.

I always leave class feeling a little more "cultured" and inspired. I take so much in because it is such a captivating subject to learn. It is not at all what I expected, it has exceeded my expectations.

The Significance of my weekend

Well, I had quite the weekend. Good thing I had fun this weekend because I think it's going to be a while before I get to party like this again.

Havana Thursday night was very special and I am only writing about it because it relates to my career goals...uh no I don't want to be bartender...but I met some very important people thursday night. It pays to be outgoing and friendly. A group of big italian men were standing around and I started practicing some of my rusty italian on them. They invite me into VIP with them, not a bad deal. It gets better though because the CEO of A Night on the Town Magazine was a part of this group. We started talking and he said he was interested in what I had to offer. (If you don't know, I have been writing fashion columns and other entertainment related articles since freshman year of high school). He brought his publist over and made her take my information and he gave me her email. As they left that night I emailed her saying how lovely it was to meet them and blah blah blah. She responded that it was their pleasure and they would liek to see my resume and find where I can fit in with their company....I hope this could potentially go somewhere in the future, not NOW obviously with my new internship, but it's a great connection to have.

I had my first staff meeting this morning with Career Services. I am so excited and over whelmed with my new job. I can't wait to see how I will make a difference and how my ideas will play out. Also with AXO I told them I am going to start incorporating art and cultural development within my position and they all seemed excited for that. I ran for Greek Sing chair last night and won that position, so therefore next semester I'll be choeographing our Greek Sing performance. I'm excited because I really miss dance & theater, and basically just performing in general.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and a good Monday.

I'm not in this picture but it was during a scene of Pippin senior year. Just looking at my old stage brings that certain kind of comfort back

Operas in Pop Culture

I am relaxing before getting ready for the night, watching Gossip Girl on my computer to catch up on the episode I missed Monday. How ironic that today we were talking in class all about Operas and this particular episode is based on the Upper East Side characters going to the Opera. Not only that, but they mention The Magic Flute, which we spoke about in class today.

Eric is teaching Jenny and Rufus about Operas while Rufus sits there reading "Operas for Dummies" while listening to The Magic Flute on his stereo.

Eric: "It reaches a high F! That never happens in Operas....You're going to love The Magic Flute, it's uhh."

Jenny: "It's okay you can say it."

Eric: "Well, it's Opera for amateurs!"

Later on in the episode, when they all arrive at the Opera, many of the ideas we talked about in class rang true throughout the scene. The way the theatre is decorated and contstructed. The walls are made of what looks to be gold, and detailed in the most beautiful architexure possible. The elite, sit in the personal boxes, while people like poor Vanessa from Brooklyn had third teir seats.

I don't watch much TV, but Gossip Girl is my favorite show right now. (If the original 90210 was on the air it would have to be a tie)...so to see a class discussion incorporated into my show, it gave my guilty pleasure a little more meaning than usual.

Introduction & First Posting

I officially have a blog. This could potential become my newest addiction. No one has ever made me write down my thoughts everyday, but it must be therapeutic. In the hectic schedule I am about to take on this semester, I will definitely need this as an escape.

I already like this class, especially because of this first assignment to start a blog. I think it is creative and works a different part of our brain. I love when classes strike my interests. I have always wanted to dabble more in art. Although I have done theater for most of my life and photography is a passion of mine, I want to find more within the history of art and the way artists form their creations and ideas.

I also want to start going to more museums. Whenever I would go to our student art shows in high school, I would walk around the gym where the held it and cry at how beautiful the art was. Maybe it touched me because I knew the artists personally, but I feel like I have never had a full chance to explore my artistic side and I am excited to do so with this class.

About my Day:

Today I applied for my first internship. I went through my first formal interview and kicked ass. They called me and gave me the Advertising/Public Relations (paid) position in Career Services. This position is literally the perfect starting point for what my career will eventually evolve into. I get to use my creative side and use graphic art and make movies but I also can use my organization and leadership side to delegate the team I will have working with me. But between my classes, this new internship, vp membership development for axo and advertising/public relations for Panhellenic, I am absolutely going to have my hands full- but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

As for this class, and the rest of my Com classes, I am so pumped to learn whatever we take on this semester. I think I am really going to grow as a person over the next few months and start to make a path for myself. LOL I sound really corny but whatever, I’m happy =)

Saw this movie last night and two of my favorite actresses. It was the two hours I shut off my phone and just escaped into a silly movie that absolutley entertained me. Loved it.
